Beschrijving

Skeletal remains from the Middle Ages were found during a small-scale excavation on the square in front of the Catharina Church in Eindhoven.

They must have been important persons buried so close to the main altar of the church. The only grave that has been examined more closely was that of a child. Archaeological DNA research showed that it was a boy.

He must have been about ten years old, witnessing the development of his teeth. Near the boy`s lower jaw was a coin, a grosso of the Doge (Duke) of Venice.

The silver coin was sewn onto the shroud on a silk thread, probably from China. Because Sint Marcus was on the worn coin, the boy was called Marcus van Eindhoven.
